LULA MARCONDES

architect and facilitator

Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1997) and a Master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, USA (2007). Co-founder of  O Norte - Oficina de Criação (1998), an architectural practice with a focus on sustainability, graphic design, visual arts and cultural projects. Lula has worked with CMPBS (Center For Maximum Potential Building Systems) in Austin, Texas / USA, one of the oldest non-governmental organizations in the United States dedicated to the environmental issue in design. In 2010 he worked with American architect Michael Reynolds, founder of  integrated off-the-grid construction system - Earthship. Since 2014 Lula has been teaching Architecture and Urban Studies at the Catholic University of Pernambuco - UNICAP

MICHAEL PHILLIPS

architect and facilitator

Australian graduate architect with a Master's of Architecture from Curtin University, Perth,Western Australia (2011). He has a specialised interest in the development and coordination of design-build educational projects as well as experience teaching at the University of South Australia, Curtin University, University of Western Australia and University of Oregon / USA. In 2012, Michael was awarded the Peter Hunt Travel Award to visit design-build programs at major American universities across the United States such as Yale, MIT and the Rural Studio at Auburn University.

NATAN NIGRO

architect and facilitator

Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (UNICAP / 2012) and a Postgraduate Degree in Politics and Cultural Management from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA / 2017). Natan works at INCITI: Research and Innovation for Cities -UFPE Federal University of Pernambuco coordinating projects and undertaking research for the Capibaribe Park project.  In 2014 Natan co founded R.O.D.A. Studio (Recife Olinda Design + Architecture). He is a representative of civil society in the Olinda Urban Development Councils and the Olinda Historical Site Preservation Council.

Founded in 1998, O Norte - Oficina de Criação is a creative practice that works with  architecture, design, visual arts and cultural projects. O Norte has had their work nationally and internationally recognised including being one of 15 architecture offices selected to represent Brazil at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennial in 2016 and part of the Brazilian architecture exhibition “Fora do Eixo: Brasil Otras Arquitecturas” at the 17th International Biennial of Architecture in Buenos Aires in 2019. O Norte has been invited as a speaker at UIA 2021 Rio, 27th World Congress of Architects.

DIEGO BEJA

Studied Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo (2004), Master and Doctor in History and Fundamentals of Architecture and Urbanism  with co supervision through  Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne. Diego is a Postdoctoral fellow at the University of Coimbra.

Founder of carpentry workshop Marcenaria Olinda with Ana Carvalho in 2015  born as a result of collective work since 2011 in the areas of visual arts, cinema, literature, photography and crafts.

RACHAEL CARTER

Rachael is an Australian interior designer with extensive experience large-scale commercial projects including work environments, education and health. Graduated in Interior Architecture in 2009, she also taught at Curtin University in the fields of Architectural Culture and History.
